Where to Fish

The majority of the fishing on the River Dart, above Totnes Weir, is in private ownership with Riparian Owners’ interests looked after by the Dart Fisheries and Conservation Association, chaired by Tom Stratton, Land Steward for the Duchy of Cornwall but fishing is available to the public from the following:

The Duchy of Cornwall’s Dartmoor Estate

The Duchy of Cornwall’s Dartmoor estate comprises over 67,000 acres and includes some 26 miles of fishing on the East and West Dart and their tributaries, the vast majority of which is available to anglers. The Estate takes an active role in working with other parties, including the Westcountry Rivers Trust, involved in Riparian Ownership and management on Dartmoor to safeguard and preserve the unique fishery that exists.

For 2022:

Season tickets for Brown Trout and / or Salmon and Seatrout can be purchased from Shop-Westcountry Angling Passport - for Brown Trout £70, Salmon and Seatrout £150.

Day and Weekly Permits can be obtained from the Two Bridges Hotel, Buckfast post Office, James Bowden and Sons, Chagford and the White Hart Hotel, Moretonhampstead. Additionally, Day Permits are available to purchase via FishPass app - more information can be found at fishpassapp.co.uk

Brown Trout Day Permit £12, Brown Trout weekly Permit £30, Salmon and Seatrout Day Permit £30, Salmon and Seatrout Weekly Permit £85.

The Duchy is represented by its agent on the committee of the Dart Fisheries and Conservation Association. The estate takes an active role in working with both the committee and all other parties involved in riparian ownership and management on Dartmoor to safeguard and preserve the unique fishery that exists.

The Westcountry Rivers Trust is in the process of compiling a management plan for the Duchy relating to it riparian ownership on Dartmoor which will provide an extremely useful tool to direct future management for both habitat and access purposes.

The Dart Angling Association.

The Dart Angling Association was formed in 1895 to provide affordable fishing for its members and visitors alike.  It is fully committed to ensuring a sustainable fishery for future generations of anglers to enjoy, that there will always be fishing available to its members on the River Dart and that all aspects of the sport of angling continue to be enjoyed by the membership as a whole.  The Association wholeheartedly supports the habitat conservation work carried out by the Dart Fisheries and Conservation Association and its partners.

The DAA owns or rents some 9 miles of fishing between Holne Bridge and Totnes.  Visitors’ tickets are available for Salmon, Seatrout and Brown Trout fishing.  Prices for brown trout fishing are currently (2023) £15 per day or £50 per week.  Tickets for migratory fish are currently £20 per day or £100 per week.  One ticket is available daily for Totnes Weir fishery at £25 per day.  Tickets available only electronically through Clubmate via our website.  There are currently vacancies for membership should you wish to join us.  See our website for further details, news and maps of the fishing.  ( www.dartaa.org  ).
